Harvard grad student union clashes with university over sexual harassment policy

As it seeks to negotiate its first contract, a graduate student union at Harvard University is clashing with the school over how it deals with sexual harassment and discrimination claims.

The Harvard Graduate Students Union - United Auto Workers is pushing for “a neutral grievance process for survivors of harassment and discrimination, guaranteed through a union contract,” according to a Friday statement.

The group said that only through such a process will Harvard’s culture change.

But the school, in a statement, said that the union’s proposal would “skip over the detailed investigatory process that is in place to ensure thoroughness, fair play, and due process for the complainant and respondent alike.”
