Charlie Baker has a 'pretty solid commitment' on a deal with the feds to rebuild Cape Cod bridges

Gov. Charlie Baker says he feels strongly he’s reached a deal for the federal government to cover the costs of an up to $2 billion project to replace the two bridges that stretch across the Cape Cod Canal.

Baker met with a top U.S. Army Corps of Engineers official at the Pentagon on Monday, where the governor said he walked away with a “pretty solid commitment” to have the initiative financed under President Joe Biden’s infrastructure law, GBH News reports.

“I am optimistic that we can get this thing launched before the end of this year,” Baker said.

The tentative agreement would allow the bridges to be rebuilt as a federal Department of Transportation and Federal High Administration project — one that the Army Corps of Engineers would bid on, according to GBH.

1. We were thinking of a road trip this summer back to our old stomping grounds..

Summers on the cape..after talking with friends, they said you better be prepared to wait in traffic - Bourne Bridge, Sagamore Bridge..you can't hardly get on the cape..they suggested North to ME, or NH..even Hampton Beach area is difficult to get to..Old Orchard Beach, some of our favs..

In the article they have a lone car on the Bourne Bridge...you do not see that everyday..now add construction to an already heavy traffic area..and, where would they detour to?? Widen the bridges, okay - pedestrian walk way, not sure, bicycle lane..opkay, but be very careful..

To get to the islands you still need to traverse a bridge, either to Hyannis or Falmouth ferrys..

Even so, Nostalgic in so many ways...

There are ferries to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket from New Bedford, MA. There are seasonal ones to Martha's Vineyard from North Kingston, RI. These start in May, ending in October each year. There are also seasonal Ferries from NYC and NJ.
Plus, you can get to Provincetown on the tip of the Cape on seasonal Ferries from Boston and Plymouth, MA.
