Ed board could reject JPS' corrective action plan, give an extension for changes

The state Board of Education on Thursday could reject a plan from the Jackson Public School District detailing how school leaders plan to correct problems cited in a 2017 audit that almost led to a takeover of the struggling school system.

JPS landed in trouble with oversight authorities last year after an investigation by the state Department of Education found the district in violation of 75 percent of the state’s accreditation standards.

JPS submitted a corrective action plan to state education officials last month, but an agenda for Thursday’s state Board of Education meeting raises questions of whether the plan has enough muster for approval.

The board is scheduled to vote on approving the corrective action plans for 13 districts currently on probation.
