(7,768 posts)Every summer I witness Osprey dive into my pond after trout for their chicks.
It never ceases to startle me, the explosion when they hit the water.
I stock my pond intentionally for this reason, among others.

(7,768 posts)The birds always arrive and depart (with a single fish) to the Northeast.
I'm in a heavily wooded area, primarily Douglas Fir, with a scattering of Alder, Western Red Cedar and Pine. It would be difficult to find the nest with the crowded canopy.
I stock the pond with 5-6 inch trout every spring and in year they are easily 12 to 14 inches. I feed them handfuls of dry cat food every day. I did have some trout that were 4 years old and over 24 inches long until a River Otter decided my pond was an "all you can eat buffet" The daily carnage...it was brutal to watch.

(13,623 posts)Last year I understand there was an injury to on of the birds. I love Apgar Village and Lake McDonald. My most beloved vacation spot.

(7,768 posts)looking at the date on the cam shot it says Sept 9th 2009, so perhaps the pair did not nest here this year.

I'm going to be monitoring it and add it to my favorites and hope for the best!
