Red bus fans fearful about fleet's future

Glacier’s red buses are an icon at the national park.

The fleet of 33 buses have been making the rounds over the Going-to-the-Sun Road
and past Glacier’s lakes and peaks since the mid-1930s.

“I don’t think there is an older fleet of buses that have been in continuous operation
like the ones in Glacier,” said Ray Djuff, a Glacier historian and board member of the
Glacier Park Foundation.

Djuff and other members of the Foundation, a Minneapolis-based nonprofit made up of
former lodge employees, park rangers, naturalists and red bus drivers, are concerned
that a new concessioner contract for Glacier, currently out for bid, would break up
that fleet of buses.
