Chuck Hagel remains undecided, has doubts about Clinton and Trump

WASHINGTON — Former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel served in the administration of Barack Obama, a Democrat, but he’s not ready to support that party’s presidential nominee.

Hagel, the former Republican senator from Nebraska, also has significant concerns about his own party’s candidate, Donald Trump.

In an interview with The World-Herald, Hagel said he’s in the same situation as many American voters: torn between two of the most disliked presidential candidates in history.

Hagel said that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and her husband have been dogged by ethics issues throughout their time in public life — her handling of emails as secretary of state is only the latest. He also pointed to recent revelations about potentially improper interactions between the Clinton Foundation and the State Department.
