There actually is a huge problem with the idea of electing business professionals to government, which is that running a government is absolutely nothing like running a business. The bottom line is simply not the same in the two.
Heck, running one kind of business is nothing at all like running a totally different business. Unfortunately, business schools teach their students that if you can run one kind of business you can run any other kind. I beg to differ. My experience in the working world is that different kinds of businesses are very different, and take different kinds of people to run them well.
I went to work for an airline in 1969. At that time, the CEO's of all the airlines in this company were either the men who'd started them, or who had hired on very early in the airline's history and worked their way up to the top. They knew the business, they knew the industry from the inside.
By the time deregulation hit, all of those men were gone, retired or dead. The new CEO's were, for the most part, men with an MBA from somewhere who'd never worked for an airline until they'd gotten hired into the CEO position. They simply didn't understand the business. They had their Business School model of how a company should be run, and reality be damned.
And that, in a nutshell, is what's wrong with Mitt Romney, and what's wrong with the entire notion of running government more like a business.
The cartoon at the link sums it up perfectly.

(23,156 posts)I did not bother to check out anything else about her, just to test my hypothesis. Turns out I was wrong.
I wonder why she doesn't put the being a Democrat out there front and center.
