Democrats ask candidate to withdraw from Senate district race

NORMAN, Okla. — The Cleveland County Democratic Party Central Committee recently voted to renounce one of two Democratic candidates running for Senate District 45, calling on him to withdraw from the race.

The vote came after Cleveland County Democratic leaders learned Noah Ynclan pleaded guilty in 2013 to domestic abuse in the presence of a child and served probation.

“Violence against women {or anyone} is reprehensible and goes against everything the Democratic Party stands for,” CCD Chair Krystal Golding-Ross said. “As of June 24, 2017, the Cleveland County Democratic Party officially endorses Steven Vincent as the Democratic candidate and we will give him our full support in the race for SD 45.”

State party leaders are not taking a position on the race.

“One of the great things about American representative democracy is that almost anyone can sign up to run for public office — sometimes this even applies to people with a history of abusive behavior toward women,” Oklahoma Democratic Party Chair Anna Langthorn said in a statement issued Saturday. “The Oklahoma Democratic Party has a long-standing principle against taking sides in contested primaries.
