Rhode Island Lawmakers To Consider Increasing Age Requirements For Tobacco Products
As E-cigarettes continue to grow in popularity among teens, more states are looking to restrict their use. Rhode Island lawmakers are proposing to increase the age requirement for buying tobacco products, including e-cigarettes.

But e-cigarettes popularity among teens is alarming educators and public health officials , who are worried about creating a new generation of nicotine addiction. The flavored tobacco sold in e-cigarettes has now eclipsed traditional cigarette use among teens and young adults. Thats according to a federal survey from the National Institute on Drug Abuse or NIDA.
Last year, Massachusetts raised the age to buy tobacco products from 18 to 21. This will be the sixth year Rhode Island lawmakers have attempted to do the same.
