Fall River mayor, still under indictment, announces bid for third term

FALL RIVER — With much fanfare, Mayor Jasiel Correia II announced his bid Friday for a third term in office.

About 30 of Correia’s family and political supporters gathered in his office on the sixth-floor of Government Center, then, following the mayor, marched to the nearby Board of Elections office, from which he took out nomination papers.

In what amounted to a campaign rally in the government office, Correia’s supporters chanted his name.

“OK, here they are,” said Correia, holding up the stack of nomination papers to his cheering supporters.
