I know there are tons of gators in the Lowcountry. I wonder how far inland they can be found in the state.

We live in the Low Country and have gators in the pond out back of our house.

Seriously, they are less of a nuances than the real racoon I had to deal with in northern Ohio.
Just look before going out and if their out, we are not. Mostly I am fascinated by them.

(14,239 posts)No gators. About the closest they get are the Santee Cooper lakes.
One exception is the Savannah River Site in Aiken across the state line from Augusta. That is because the warm/hot water coming out of the reactors there keeps the water warm year round. Gators generally cant tolerate water that gets near freezing.

(14,239 posts)about 50 years ago that was 18 feet, several feet longer than any in a natural habitat.
I grew up near the bomb plant, which is all anyone ever called it. Every nuke the US built during the Cold War had material from there.
