University of South Carolina updates guidelines to require masks as COVID-19 cases rise
The University of South Carolina has updated its COVID-19 guidelines Friday, requiring face coverings at all times inside all campus buildings, as cases rise in the state and students prepare for a return this fall.
There is an exception is for those in their own residence hall room, private office or eating inside campus dining facilities, or outdoors.
Face coverings will also be required on shuttles, buses and other forms of university transportation, the policy said.
USC Interim President Harris Pastides said in an online post to students, faculty, and staff as part of an update to the university's guidelines, that the new policy reflects recent recommendations by Centers for Disease Control and the state Department of Health and Environmental Control.
