NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)
Brushing aside calls to tweak one of the strictest abortion bans in the United States, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee on Monday unveiled plans to funnel tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to anti-abortion centers as he declared the state had a moral obligation to support families.
Lee, a Republican, said he wants to create a $100 million grant program for nonprofits commonly known as crisis pregnancy centers." If approved, Tennessee would become one of the top spending states on such organizations known for dissuading people from getting an abortion.

(11,139 posts)What percentage of taxpayer dollars goes to providing medical care, and not merely proselytizing against family planning/contraceptives and disinformation peddling? Will these centers assist with pre and post natal/maternity care? Will they assist with providing nutrition and housing allowing full time motherhood for the first few years, will they be providing infant care, or will care stop upon delivery/ or earlier when other options have expired? Where did the money come from and were any programs cut to shuffle funds around?
