Lynnwood Link construction to close I-5 lanes as light rail nears

LYNNWOOD — A lane closure along I-5 near Lynnwood is set to begin Monday.

Sound Transit contractors will close the right lane on southbound I-5 between the 44th Avenue W on-ramp and 220th Street SW from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Monday. The lane closure will end Wednesday morning.

The work is connected to the Lynnwood Link extension, slated to begin service Aug. 30. The project has spurred other recent lane and road closures, including a nighttime full closure in Shoreline.

Sound Transit recently began pre-revenue service of the $1.2 billion, 8½-mile extension to the light rail. This will help get train operators acclimated to the route. The last major hurdle for the route is a safety inspection, Sound Transit officials have said.
