Mayors share gun law concerns

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A proposed state law that allows concealed carry firearms in municipal recreation centers won't affect just Charleston, Facilities in South Charleston and Dunbar will also be affected by Senate Bill 317, which was passed by the Legislature and is awaiting Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin's signature or veto.

The bill would force all West Virginia cities to allow concealed carry firearms into their recreation centers, which the Legislature defined as "any municipal swimming pool, recreation center, sports facility, facility housing an after-school program or other similar facility where children are regularly present."

Municipalities could still ban open-carry firearms in recreation centers and can ban all firearms in other "municipally owned or operated buildings."
