Wisconsin election protections in good shape, research finds

Wisconsin’s election policies leave it better positioned than most swing states to resist threats to democracy, according to a report being released today.

The report from Informing Democracy, a research group focused on election law, provided to the Cap Times ahead of its public release, found Wisconsin’s election laws are clear and says the state has adequate safeguards to protect the integrity of vote counting in November.

Still, researchers found potential areas of concern that could loom large as voters cast their ballots in a hotly contested presidential race where Wisconsin could prove decisive.

The report alleged that a county clerk and 12 county officials that sign off on the official election results had questioned the legitimacy of the 2020 results or promoted election conspiracy theories.
