WI-AD40: Wisconsin GOP Assembly candidate endorses Project 2025, calls it 'very standard-issue, Republican stuff

In recent months, Republican candidates across the U.S. have been loudly distancing themself from Project 2025, an infamous and incredibly unpopular blueprint for a second Trump presidency put together by The Heritage Foundation. Trump himself has outwardly denied any connection to the 900-page plan, even though it was authored by many of his senior advisors.

That’s not stopping Wisconsin Republican Assembly candidate Jerry Helmer from whole-heartedly endorsing the plan. In a July 24 post to the Wisconsin Parents, Grandparents and Voters for School Board Accountability Facebook page, Helmer referred to Project 2025 as “very standard-issue, Republican stuff” and claimed “the left” made up lies and “insane claims” about Project 2025.

The candidate in the 40th District race went on to defend the document’s proposals to eliminate the Department of Education and to ban free school lunch, two proposals that are among the most unpopular aspects of Project 2025.

The endorsement of such plans isn’t that unusual for Helmer, who is actively campaigning on expanding access to what conservatives call “school choice,” which usually encourages parents to send their children to private schools to justify siphoning funding away from public school districts.
