Proposed wind tax increase draws opposition

RAWLINS — More towns and counties are lining up to oppose the idea of increasing wind generation taxes in Wyoming.

Members of the Legislature’s Joint Revenue Committee have directed staff to prepare proposals to increase the state wind tax.

One proposed bill would increase the current tax of $1 per megawatt hour of wind produced in Wyoming and the second proposal would require wind companies to pay a portion of the federal Production Tax Credits they receive.

County commissioners in Carbon and Albany counties, as well as town councilors in Laramie and Hanna, have passed resolutions opposing the proposals.
