State vehicle registration fees increase

Wyoming has upped state fees for motor vehicle registration, effective July 1.

The state Legislature doubled the registration fee for cars from $15 to $30 and motorcycles and multipurpose vehicles from $12 to $25. Truck and trailer fees have also doubled or nearly doubled, depending on weight.

State fees are collected by the Teton County treasurer and sent to the Wyoming Department of Transportation.

WYDOT District Engineer Keith Compton said only state fees — not county fees, which are based on the vehicle’s valuation — have increased. He said the Wyoming Legislature is using the fee increase to make up for funds WYDOT no longer receives from the state.
