I am tempted to try one of these mattresses. Anyone have experience with one?

On the plus side, they ship 'em out packed small, so they're the size of a clumsy duffel bag.

(2,593 posts)I hope you'll report back if you get one. We will soon be in the market for one and I think choosing a mattress is horribly difficult. Trying one for a few minutes in a store tells me nothing about how it would be for an entire night. I've chosen poorly more than once.

They are warranted for ten years, so that's something. The innerspring we have now is six years old and is already giving me a backache. The memory foam layer has sunk in on each side of the bed!
So this would be the first time we've tried a latex foam mattress, but it is supposed to be better than ordinary. More supportive and breathable than the old, original kind. And you get 90 days to try it out with free returns.
Yes if we do get it I will report back.

(17,276 posts)planning on it by this summer. The reviews are very good, and it's guaranteed, so little risk.

(16,331 posts)I have no idea what to buy. I think the Tufts is around $600 for a queen but I also read good reviews for the Dream Foam which is about $900. Either way, it's a lot of money. I have never had a foam mattress itself though I have had memory foam toppers. I'm just unsure as to whether I'm going to like something that's made of foam.
Either way I don't think any mattress lasts that long nowadays. The one I have now has only lasted 6 years and has a valley already. I have never weighed more than 130 lbs. and I sleep alone, so I expected this one to last longer than 6 years.

(17,276 posts)Less hot and more firm. I'd give it a try. We have a mattress with a memory foam top which, at 6 1/2 years has a valley on each side where we sleep. I feel like I'm getting into a saucer to sleep at night! Time for a change. The old wisdom says that a mattress should last seven years, but this memory foam doesn't!
We bought it at a warehouse store but still thought it was pretty good quality. Serta perfect sleeper? Hm.

(16,331 posts)I've read that almost all mattresses last only 7 years. About 4 months ago I read lots of reviews on memory foam toppers for mattresses and I believe the Serta was the highest rated. So I bought a 3" one and put it on my mattress. However, I also had read that if your mattress already has an indentation in it, a memory foam topper will only conform to the indentation and not help that much. This seems to be the case with mine.
I noticed my lower back is sore more often, but at almost 68 years old I wonder if it's not all due to the mattress. I do think any new mattress would help at least until it gets broken in. I've had recurring lower back pain most of my life and a herniated disc once. It would probably help if I got back into basic yoga but in almost every other type of exercise I am very self-disciplined but could never get into a yoga routine at home.
My main probably is that I'm very frugal and I am of a generation that remembers a time when things were better quality and lasted longer. I know that's a generalization because there are definitely some things that are better nowadays, but I don't think people had to buy new mattresses every 6 or 7 years back then. Or maybe they just suffered I do remember my father putting a piece of plywood on top of the box spring in my parents' bed. Ironically, in reading the reviews on foam mattresses several reviewers said they put a sheet of plywood under theirs too!

(17,276 posts)...in your same generation. And seven years is what I've always heard about the life of a mattress. But yeah they probably didn't replace them that often. What bugs me now is that they make them non-reversible--you used to be able to flip them every few months for longer life for the inner springs.
I do yoga about five times a week--just a 15 minute routine following along with a tv program. I think it does help keep me flexible. (I also ride an indoor recumbent bike about three hours a week total for cardio). But keeping that lower back flexible will help with the stiffness!
Have you ever watched the older woman on PBS who has the yoga program around 6:30 AM? She's an inspiration because she's not a young person and she doesn't get into all the headstands, etc. (Is her name Priscilla?) I work three days a week so that's way too early and I don't have time in the mornings, but I've thought about buying her DVD's if PBS has them. I think I could manage 15 minutes a day.
I live near a beautiful metropark and have walked 4 miles almost every day for 25 years. Before that I was a jogger for 10 years. I bike in the good weather but not as much as I used to. I've been active all my adult life because I'm not someone who can sit still for long
Every time I do more research on mattresses I get more unsure of what to buy. I have to wonder why more mattresses aren't made so you can flip them. Is it by design so people have to buy one every 7 years?
Now I'm going to tell you my very dirty little secret. Please don't judge! Back when I bought this bed and mattress set in 2011 I was going from a furnished apartment to an unfurnished apartment and I needed a bed quick so I had no time to research. I was also at a very vulnerable time in my life and I didn't even care what I bought as long as I had a bed. I bought a trump home mattress/boxspring set. EGADS! I had no idea. When it started going south a year or two ago I went online to read reviews of it and they were awful! Anyway, I have this idea of when I do get my new mattress I'm going to put this one out at the curb with a huge black X on it (because it says trump all over it) and a note to the garbage pickup men to "please take this to the dump and along the way stop at the White House to pick up the orange idiot and take him with you to the dump". Ha. Ha.

(17,276 posts)Priscilla Patrick. I recorded her shows to DVD several years ago, and run through them one at a time. I had them on a DVR and then recorded to disc. Took a while, but now I have them. I don't even know if she's on TV in our area anymore. But I think she's great!
You can try a Tuft and Needle mattress for 100 days and then they'll give you your money back while you donate the mattress. I guess it's the only way to know for sure.
