I have "the egg". Do I need a special darning needle and/or darning "yarn" or thread?

(11,250 posts)I've always used whatever is on hand....which is why my repaired green wool socks have regular navy blue thread.
Good luck!

(4,873 posts)and darning thread which I inherited from great-aunts. It's very soft six-ply cotton and does a great job--the darn turns out flat and closely woven, lasts forever. If I didn't have proper darning thread I'd use embroidery thread.
Happy darning--one of the most satisfactory household arts I know of.
PS I should clarify that I'm talking about darning socks, not woven fabrics.

(2,312 posts)I've sewed for ages, but I've never darned a sock. I always think you'd feel the stitches under your foot, and that it would be irritating. Not so?
