The Weird Bathroom Cleaning Tip I Learned from an Awful Landlord... he grimaced at the ancient 1960s bathtub and the mildly soapy sides.
"That there is grease, young lady," he griped. "You know the best way to clean it?"
He stepped out into the kitchen, grabbed the new broom from the closet and the Dawn dish soap from the sink and squirted dish soap all over the tub.
Then he seized the broom and to my astonishment, swept it through the soap and up and down ...
He swept and swept and sure enough, after running the soap down the drain with a quick blast of the shower that tub was clean as a whistle.

(60,011 posts)Spray with white vinegar every few days, esp. shower curtain.
Works great.

(9,693 posts)No soap scum. Plus no slimy "ends" of soap or bending over to pick up slippery dropped soap in the shower.

Same here.

(39,918 posts)Wondering if there's something stronger than vinegar to zap black mold, not the scary type though

(34,195 posts)That was when I was in Florida years ago.
Only time I had mold.
Don't know if that's wise.

(52,259 posts)After the hurricanes they advised victims of flooding to spray bleach on everything. I have had 5 floods in my bottom floor apt (I live in a desert climate but neighbors with leaks combined with gravity makes me the victim) and the company that does the "drying out" always uses bleach. It is great on wood too.

The tub in our New York City apartment is quite old and had a dull, dingy finish. Replacing it was not an option. I found a product called Tough As Tile made by Homax. It comes in a variety of colors and the high gloss white that I used looks spectacular. It requires two coats and takes two full days to cure. One must follow the directions absolutely carefully but the results were worth the effort. I cannot recommend this product highly enough!
