Weighted blankets - a newer concept to me. Experiences with, please.

I'm good with the idea of enabling better sleep.

Apparently weighted blankets are supposed to be good for this - calming, easing anxiety, etc.
They come in various weights, which may have to do with one's own weight and size.
What is the base fabric, and does it make a difference, other than the obvious - cleaning/washing the blanket?
Brands?

I am old, with middle-aged adult children.
Am thinking of gifting them, or some of them, with such for Christmas, if they seem worthwhile.

the best quality. But I will say it was comforting. It did feel calming - I don't think it improved my sleep though. The extra weight was comforting though. Again, it might have something to do with the quality of the one I bought. I got mine at Walmart.

the expected generic types.

What was the weight of yours, if you don't mind?
Are you still using it - sounds as though you've given it up.

I found it was cheaper to replace most items than to pay to move them across states. I'm not against getting another one in the future.

I looked at some in Costco and they appear to have nice soft fabric like a normal blanket.

We have 2 or 3 electric blankets which no longer work and they are pretty heavy Sleeping under a couple of those would provide weight.

I decided I needed to know more after reading your post and found this in a quick Google search

They appear to replicate many of the benefits of deep tissue massage.

Section from link below about how weighted/filled....

Micro Glass Bead Filling

Micro glass beads make your weighted blanket heavy. They're so fine, they feel almost like sand in your hands. Because of their compact size, we can create the necessary weight without much volume. They are super dense, smooth, and secured between layers of polyfill, so you can barely feel them in the blanket. They are also non-toxic and made of recycled glass to be better for the environment.

I've always preferred a heavy covering at night, and when weighted blankets became a thing, it started to make sense.
I've figured out recently that if I stretch out my legs at night, and tuck the blanket snugly under my feet, that I'm much less prone to cramps and restless leg twitches.
