Related: About this forumI learned something about Clorox bleach today....
I know, I know, try to control your excitement, everybody!
Seriously .... We recently had a problem with our water softener. Long story short, among other things, the service man told Mr. O to pour a cup of bleach into the softener. He was about to use the Clorox bleach we keep on hand for doing the laundry, which is the splashless kind. Fortunately, before putting it in the softener, he had the presence of mind to wonder if using the splashless kind was okay to put in the softener, so he called the Clorox company, and the woman he spoke to told him Never put that in your water softener, it could foul up the softener, plus the splashless Clorox is not made to disinfect. And, sure enough, if you look on the label, its says right there,
Not for sanitation or disinfection. To sanitize and disinfect, use Clorox Disinfecting Bleach.
I never knew this, and thought maybe this might be helpful information to those of you who use this product.
All we need is another big expense here! Our A/C and furnace will probably need replaced soon, and we certainly dont want to add on to that!

(106,359 posts)that you mix with water to use. Once mixed, it is clearly the same as normal bleach and they advertise it "Clean with confidence knowing the Bleach Crystals only start working when you mix them with water. Enjoy the same great Clorox Bleach power, now easier than ever to use."
Not sure what the formulation is in your liquid no-splash product.

10x deep cleaning benefits!

The not for disinfecting part is on the back label.

(953 posts)Thanks for sharing this. I buy the splashless type all the time and thought it was bleach. Wow....I had no idea.
I will go back to buying regular Clorox now.
By the way, did you know that Clorox wipes have no bleach in them? It is true. I learned about that a couple of months ago. However, they do have an anti-bacterial formula that will kill germs such as E. coli and salmonella.
You probably already knew that, but I honestly didnt know.
I think the problem is that Clorox is a brand name under which a variety of products are made, but most of us equate the name Clorox with bleach. I assumed that all Clorox products had bleach in them. Not so.
I appreciate your sharing this. It helps me out!

(120,858 posts)I thought that was the whole point of bleach. If you can't disinfect with it, it's like dry water or odorless perfume.

A real marketing ploy by the Clorox Company, if you ask me.
