We're remodeling our kitchen & will need new appliances. I'm in a dilemma on what to replace the

1.) microwave wall oven combination (Con: very expensive!)

2.) gas range with vent hood & a wall microwave (con: gas oven. DH isn't fond of having a gas oven)


Undecided on replacing the fridge since buying a fridge is always a nightmare.

I hate buying kitchen appliances & am horrified at the thought of having to buy them all at once!!!


Looking for brand suggestions and any other recommendations

I was a bit of a Samsung loyalist. But I cant do it any more.

I just replaced my third dead Samsung monitor that didn't last as long as it should.

The dishwasher died days after the warranty period

The fridge started freezing over due to a poorly designed drain. I had to go to the internet to jury rig a fix.

The flagship phone (a few generations back) had amazing features.. except the speakerphone didn't work, even after sending it in for repairs.

the "Smart" oven refused to stay connected to wifi, and the control panel(most importantly the off button) stopped working when it got hot. I went through 3 warranty repairs that never fixed this major safety issue, then went out of warranty period and was on my own.

The dryer stopped drying. again shortly after warranty period was over.

Etc.

The TV is still running. Other than that, literally everything has been great, amazing features and abilities.. right up until they stopped working fairly close out of the warranty period.

22. Some are good and some are junk. I've had LG refridge with no problems. They had a run of

bad compressors that they denied had a problem.. Mine is good..
Also see if you really Really REALLY need an ice maker. They all give you problems. I buy a bag of ice and it lasts me 3 mos... YMMV

He has told me to keep my old Maytag forever. By old, I mean about 35 years and still going strong!
Same with my old Whirlpool stove and GE refrigerator.

3. Don't buy any Samsung refrigerators

The ice maker freezes up and makes a horrible noise. Once a week I have to unplug the refrigerator and let the ice maker melt and use a knife to remove the ice. There is a guy on YouTube who talks about the best appliances to buy. Also run away from Bosch dishwashers.

5. If I was remodeling my kitchen the #1 thing I'd like is a fume hood that ventilates OUTSIDE

my house. So many things I just won't make (at least, not inside) cause I don't want my house smelled up.

I already have gas stove but I'd buy a nicer one with at least one burner suitable for serious wok'ing, one that kicks like a damn flamethrower.

Gas vs. Electric Oven ... meh. I have a gas oven/stove, I don't hate the oven. I use the toaster oven way more anyway. I'd think one could find a range with a gas top and electric oven but I've never actually looked, so

Gas stove top though is a must in my book.

I also haven't been happy with most Samsung large appliances I've owned.

And think twice before buying a fridge where the ice-maker is in a small side-unit inside the fridge itself unless you REALLY research that nobody has problems with the icemaker in that particular model. In my experience, fridges with that setup almost always suck.

6. Definitely the #2 Option (love gas, personal opinion)

We shopped for a new fridge last year and went to an outlet store where we were able to purchase a Fridgidaire Professional Model stainless steel with ice and water for $2199 Because it had a couple of little scratches on it which are totally not noticeable. It also has a drawer which can convert to either freezer space or additional fridge space. This model sells for $3500 - $3900.

7. Find a local appliance store

Not only best for service, they can build a package that could be competitive with box store prices. Box stores charge extra for warrantee services and are notoriously hard to deal with

8. I'd go for an induction cooktop and a separate

microwave and convection oven. I’d try to get a side open oven. So much easier. I wouldn’t do a built in microwave because when it breaks, and it will, finding one the exact same size is a nightmare. I’d have a big box that I could put whatever size in I want. When I bought my one and only house there weren’t any appliances. Not even a water heater. I went nuts trying to figure out what I wanted. Lucked up at Lowes. Washer/dryer was 1/2 off. I got $200 in gift cards and financed same as cash for 18 months.

9. When replacing my fridge next time

I’m going with apt. size … it’s just me, and I have a chest freezer, so I can buy in bulk and freeze food for ltr.
Apartment size fridge is much cheaper, and although smaller it’s more than enough for 1

I use my small convection oven and microwave to cook and warm leftovers etc
Wish I had a small gas range rather than electric range, but it’s enough for now.

11. I have a m/w that vents outside over a gas range

That was done many years a go to replace the stove hood. Conventional wisdom today in kitchen remodels is to install a lower cabinet m/w model so you don't have to reach up for hot items. A separate hood vent is preferred because it will mount up higher than the m/w units.

Try to look for companies that offer packages. like GE, etc. you might get a better deal on upped units vs contractor specials. Even if you only buy two appliances, they offer deals or specials. The distributor I used took the old units away and did the hookups, that's important.

I have a gas stove, professional variety with 2 ovens because that what fit the space in my house. I recently replaced my dishwasher unit that was over 20ys with a Fisher/Pakel 2 drawer unit, no bending down drawers open up it actually two units. I'm loving it, I had to go back to powder because its works the best with the design.

16. 15 years ago we built our house,

I hand picked everything. I have a Jenn Air gas top/ electric oven and it has been no trouble at all. I spent a lot of time cruising stores until I found this. It was a floor model with a tiny chip on the black top. To this day I have to look to find it so I got a huge deal on that otherwise they are far too pricey but damn it has always been there for 15 years of hard work. I also bought at that time a Maytag fridge freezer that has also been without problems. My microwave sits above the stove, it is an LG. I have had a couple of problems but not enough to need replacing and the fixes were not anything I can remember being expensive or critical, it has been good for a long time. I actually crave one of those really expensive, fancy Samsungs but I hear they are nothing but trouble. Don't need it anyway. Just my 2 cents. Hope it helps a bit....do check the stores that have floor models. I would never have been able to afford that gas top/electric stove Jenn Air. Little chips can make a good deal.

19. Many years ago, we built a house and I got the dream kitchen

All electric Jenn-Air kitchen.. even had a grill in the middle of the stove top n I loved it. There were discounts at the time for the all in purchases. Don’t have that house anymore but when I think about it..that kitchen always makes me smile. Have fun 🤩

26. I have a Bosch dishwasher and a Bosch electric range.

They are going on 11 years old and I’ve had no problems with either.

My refrigerator is a counter depth Maytag (French door). It is also 11 years old and the only issue we have had is the ice maker needed replacement a few years ago.

Miele appliances are also very highly rated but more expensive than Bosch.

I had to buy all my appliances at once for a compete gut job and remodel of my kitchen.

The one thing I would recommend is buying from a local (not big box] appliance store. Mine worked with my contractor and I got the contractor’s discount. They were also great about coordinating delivery with my contractor.
