Related: About this forumOK, I did it. Ordered a MacBook Pro which is scheduled to be delivered on Thursday.
After fighting with Snowball, my MacBook, for the past year, I am finally going to put her down.
She has continued to shut down repeatedly, intermittently and totally unpredictable. Recently, she went through a full week of stability, then yesterday shut down a minimum of 20 times (I kid you not).
She's also running slower, the fan seems to kick in more often, the space bar doesn't work very well and there are sugar crystals under the screen from a small accident involving sweetened hot tea.
I have put off the inevitable for too long due to financial concerns, but I just decided to bite the bullet.
Now that the decision has been made.......
I am really, really excited!!!!!

(28,017 posts)my Macbookpro went to spousette, while I got the iMac.
I cannot even begin to recall the double disc method of computing when I began practicing. Being the guinea pig in the firm, I also got the first 386 machine, then the first 486 with a ten meg hard drive.
Oh, for the bad old daze.
MacBook Pro is a fine machine, I think you will be impressed.

I love new toys.
My first computer was a Mac, then I was forced into that horrible place of the PC for years before I could get back. I will never go back again and getting a new one is just like Christmas at 4 years old.

(28,017 posts)Neo-office and open office do everything ms does, for free.

(146,218 posts)Does either neo-office or open office come installed or are they to be purchased separately? If the latter, then I will just migrate my old MS Office and use it as long as I can.

(28,017 posts)They read write everything, and frankly are better than MS' product.
As shareware goes, they are topnotch.

(146,218 posts)Waited for 3 hours yesterday while it did the migration, but old machine crashed with only 2 minutes left!!!
Just as well. Now I can carefully reload just what I want and start with a clean machine.
Going to take me a while to learn all the bells and whistles, but everything I have found so far is just great.
This has also prompted me to give Safari another chance, and I am liking it so far.

(68,471 posts)You might be better off from the failed migration. Your old machine probably had lots of old PPC apps that just can't live on a Lion machine.

(146,218 posts)I have been slowly adding things today as I needed them, and I like the "clean" feeling of the machine.
I can keep photos/movies on the old one, too, and basically use it as an external hard drive for a lot of things I don't need right now.
I love Macs. They come with so little instruction and it's so clear why once you start to use it.
P.S. The trackpad really rocks!
