Are there any printer manufacturers out there that don't force people to buy their toner via firmwar

Yeah, HP is up to its old tricks again with the firmware and making it impossible to use the printer with anything other than expensive HP toner.

Are there any printer manufacturers out there that don't pull this horseshit? If so I think I'll trade my printer in just to say to HP if you're going to do that I'll go to someone else for a printer.

I ended up buying a Brother B&W laser printer for a instead.

I tried using generic ink, but it invariably was a poor experience. Messy too. The Epsom ink is still kinda pricey IMO.

So you'd be better off to change. I use Canon and have liked it very well. Good quality and simple to use.

Generic ink, however, is a poor bargain. Most of it is poor quality of muddy color and inconsistent transparency. Canon ink is not that much more expensive and consistently produces better results.

instead of the ink. It is cheaper than buying a new cartridge.
