Why did Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissented in the Trump's tax return case?

Roberts,Gorsuch, and Kavanaugh are the 3 Republican appointees ruled that Trump is required to disclose his tax returns
Democratic appointees- Ginsburg,Breyer,Sotomeyer, and Kagan voted to require Trump to release his tax returns.

And no, they're not taking directions from Trump. Instead, they are ideologues cut from the same cloth as Bill Barr, who also doesn't care about Trump but who actually believes in the theory of the unitary executive. Alito and Thomas are the worst of the justices, much worse even than Kavanaugh and Gorsuch. They will predictably always take the most rigidly conservative position, no matter what the issue might be. And even they aren't quite as bad as William Rehnquist, who was Nixon's Bill Barr before he was appointed to the Supreme Court.

He seems to agree with every major point of the majority opinion. It appears a dissent in name only. My theory is that he thought he had to dissent.
