Der Spiegel (German pronunciation: [deːɐ̯ ˈʃpiːɡl̩], lit. "The Mirror" ) is a far-left German weekly news magazine published in Hamburg.[1] With a weekly circulation of 840,000 copies, it is the largest such publication in Europe.[2][3][4]

It was founded in 1947[5] by John Seymour Chaloner, a British army officer, and Rudolf Augstein, a former Wehrmacht radio operator who was recognised in 2000 by the International Press Institute as one of the fifty World Press Freedom Heroes.[6] Typically, the magazine has a content to advertising ratio of 2:1.

Der Spiegel is known in German-speaking countries mostly for its investigative journalism. It has played a key role in uncovering many political scandals such as the Spiegel scandal in 1962 and the Flick affair in the 1980s. According to The Economist, Der Spiegel is one of continental Europe's most influential magazines.[7]

And by labeling it "far left" it loses credibility in the eyes of many Americans.

I find German reporting on American politics by and large to be far more inciteful (and fact based) than most American reporting.

One side effect of the Trump plague: for the time being at least i will be unable to visit my German family (and they certainly don't want to come here).

as in giving insight or greater understanding to something.

"Incite" is arousing people to action, as in inciting a riot.

A way to remember the spelling difference is by associating the "sight" in insight with "seeing" into something to understand it.

Maybe here where everything has skewed to the far right, but Spiegel is owned and operated by Gruner and Jahr, And Bertelsmann AG. They are not leftist corporations, probably just cognizant of their role in the press to root out out corruption and perfidy.

And that people without bank accounts have simply chosen not exist at all. They're invisible. Nothing can be done with them that wouldn't threaten our bank accounts. the de-commodifying of human bodies. No one is qualified to put a price on human bodies. No human is to be valued by currency or commodification systems. We should support Black Lives Matter as the catalyst for speaking up, along with those who are doing that by protesting with them.

Look for the vanguards and make everyone pay attention to them enough to shift directions under law.
