(36,904 posts)Public violence against women gets the appropriate response. Violence perpetrated by women against men is a joke even on a progressive site like DU and even if it involves mutilation. Do you actually think it's going to be any different anywhere else?

(47,209 posts)Oh yeah, that's men killing. Women and each other. Ooops. You gotta work on that shit, seriously.

(36,904 posts)Among black marital partners, wives were just about as likely to kill their husbands as husbands were to kill their wives: 47% of the victims of a spouse were husbands and 53% were wives.

(47,209 posts)62% vs 38%. And intimate partners- 3 out of 4! You left that out by accident?
This is laughable, you trying to deny that men are much more violent in harmful ways. Guess what? No one buys this horsehit.

(36,904 posts)Nobody is claiming women don't get killed and injured by domestic violence in greater numbers. However you want to spin it you are still left with the reality that there's still a lot of men out there who are victims of domestic violence.
I'm not denying anything and you're being argumentative and frankly quite shitty with your tone.
If you want to start your own thread on some other domestic violence subject, be my guest, but you will not continue to disrupt this one without getting a time out for bad behavior. This isn't GD, and it isn't moderated like GD. You can either be civil or you can be show the door. Your choice.

(36,904 posts)That's pretty much the only rule here. Other than that you can disagree all you want and you'll get the same respect you afford others.

(36,904 posts)We actually invite and encourage respectful disagreements here and it's actually a bigger problem for someone who might have a dissenting opinion. That way the 'protect' in the protected group works both ways.

DareLondon set up a hidden camera experiment to see how strangers would react to seeing domestic abuse for ManKinds #ViolenceIsViolence campaign.
Public perceptions of violence differ depending on the aggressor. People intervened when the woman was abused, not a few found it entertaining when the man is subjected to the same abuse.
I seem to recall any number of hidden camera youtube videos revealing abuse of women in public places. Is this any different?

(37 posts)I have to say, this struck a major chord with me. I'm against any form of domestic violence, but I agree that violence against men by women is not taken as seriously as it should be. I have witnessed it first hand, some played out just like the video but mostly verbal and emotional abuse. I have seen so many good men beaten down continuously by women verbally hammering at them and often times leading to physical attacks because the woman is not receiving the response she wants, be it submission or confrontation.

(54,868 posts)It was interesting to see all the laughs when the roles were reversed; not all that unfamiliar (see GD). There have been similar situations on the TV show "What Would You Do?". It is amazing how drilled into our collective heads that some kinds of violence are "acceptable."

(37 posts)None of it is ok regardless of gender or age. Fact IS it exists and I do not believe female-on-male abuse is shown the same attention as male-on-female abuse.

(36,904 posts)Personally I don't believe rape jokes of any kind are funny, and it seems as if people are starting to wake up to the idea that male rape jokes are equally as unfunny as female rape jokes. However, some of the same people who are convinced such jokes lead to rape culture, are ambivalent at best on the subject of female-on-male violence jokes. One has to wonder if it's just a serious case of the doublethink, or they simply believe in some warped idea that it's social justice.
Promoting the myth that domestic violence is almost exclusively one sided does neither men nor women any good when one considers the statistics on reciprocal IPV.
