she did interview in 2013..suddenly outrage started in 2015 and she retracted.

If she was misquoted, she should have retracted the day interview was published..not on the day outrage started...i don't see any clarification/tweet/press release etc from her since last 2 years about she being misquoted in her interview..

at least now she offers it's a stupid generalization. Meanwhile many continue to repeat the stupid generalization as if it makes the least bit of sense while all the while denying it isn't grossly sexist.

but so what? Most of us will never go there.

People say silly things all the time and the normal attitude is just a shake of the head and life goes on. Until now you had to be careful picking your targets because outrage was a lot of work to generate.

However, in this new age of instant outrage, anyone in a bad mood can pick up a comment from years ago and post. Post it in the right place where others in a bad mood see it and massive outrage is guaranteed.

It would be nice to think that whoever takes over when we wipe ourselves out learns from our mistakes.

But I kinda doubt it.

7. While both statements are obviously true

I think that there is a difference between what it takes for somebody to be willing to justify to themselves killing and what it takes for somebody to justify to themselves committing rape.

Given that the incidences of rape are significantly higher than murder and how many guys seem to be able to convince themselves that they aren't a/wouldn't be a rapist under various circumstances, it seems prudent to take more caution about being raped.

Take this recent study done in the U.S. which found that 31% of guys say that they "they would act on “intentions to force a woman to sexual intercourse” if they were confident they could get away with it. When asked whether they would act on “intentions to rape a woman” with the same assurances they wouldn’t face consequences, just 13.6 percent of participants agreed."

It disturbs me that nearly 15% say they would rape. But that nearly 1/3rd of men would admit to being willing to do the same if you change the word rape to force, that terrifies me as a guy.

Or there's this survey which found that in multiple countries (all Asian which is a limitation of the survey) about 25% of men admit to an act that can be classified as rape, although again, the word rape wasn't used.

It's only real worth is to show how selection bias and small sample sizes can create ridiculous results.
