Subject Line: I think that HoF and the Men's Group have done a HIGHLY commendable job with these guidelines.

I am sending a link to each of the 3 admins and hoping that the three of you can get
together and come up with something similar for DU as a whole. I think these guidelines
mean that the toughest groundwork has already been done for you and that you just
need to tweak it to make it suitable for the entire site, much of which has become
quite toxic.
.
I add this for the PPR'ing of long-term members -- a FINAL WARNING NOTIFICATION in which
one of the admins (or one of a group of admin-directed "PPR Czars&quot PM's the offender with
the message of "Your behavior is approaching or had already crossed over a line beyond
which you are going to be PPR'd unless your behavior changes/improves NOW."

I completely agree with an end of the "rally the troops" and attacking other members/the group itself crap; that is just tiresome! However, I feel both groups, being safe havens, should be allowed to discuss this site and its issues as it pertains to each groups' mission statement/SOP. The issue with taking it to Meta is that it is open to everyone, and my feeling, is that is where some of the shit really starts. It is possible to discuss one's feelings without calling out others. When those discussions take place in their respective groups rarely do you have someone come along and say..."prove it! Let's see the posts/posters doing such and such. If you cannot provide them, then no such problem exists!" To me, that is FUCKING ANNOYING. Here, as I imagine in HOF, such accusatory (and, IMO, that is exactly what they are) posts do not, or rarely, happen. It becomes more a discussion about how we are feeling without making it about other people or dragging in dissent. I am all for discussion and dissent, but there are times where a 'friendly' atmosphere is conducive to healing and helping people move on with an issue.

Everything else looks good to me. I think it is a HUGE step in the right direction and will make DU a better place for it. You are all to be commended for taking these actions!

Some times "the topic of interest to men" is a discussion about prevailing culture. The prevailing culture we have in common is... DU.

Personally, I share the need to elevate the level of discussion and reduce the tribalism througout DU. But, I don't feel all that responsible and concerned for the tone of Meta. Skinner & co made it only available to registered users for a good reason - it's a pressure release valve.

Better to implement "meta rules"; What happens in meta, stays in meta.

My two cents.

Warren did a great thing here.
