Men's Group
Related: About this forumSimply incredible
It's a Men's Group, but you are not allowed to relate to fellow men about the pangs of aging. I thought reminiscing about youth could not possibly be offensive to anyone, especially fellow men. Look at my recent post that was hidden by the jury.
I will not dare post anything again on any forum of DU. I have nothing to offer if I have to tread this lightly with my comments. This is beyond absurd. You would not believe the demeaning comments of a couple of the jury members. They were far more hurtful than anything I said. I am most thankful that even a female juror was more judicious in my behalf.
So long friends. I'm signing off forever from DU.

(19,182 posts)What exactly was the issue with what you wrote that someone alerted on it? I am puzzled.
Arkansas Granny
(31,828 posts)offensive. I don't know what motivates people sometimes.
I don't usually post to the Men's Group, but saw this under "Latest Threads".
ETA: Maybe someone was offended by your use of the word "chicks".

(80,708 posts)This was 6 random DU members, 4 of whom voted to hide. For the life of me I cant figure out why, but Ive got too much going on right now to raise the issue in meta, myself.
Bad hide IMHO.

(80,708 posts)Id be interested to see the jury results incl. the rationale for the alert.

(36,900 posts)Think for a minute about the mindset of someone who would alert on it. Either they are so easily offended that they may even have trouble functioning normally in society, or they get their jollies from the action stage of misandry.
Either way I feel pity for them, not anger.

But, we leave, they win. I'm not here to cowtow to the various intolerant wings and make them happy. The more of us who leave the more their tiny voices are heard and whatever usefulness this board has is diminished.
Let's wait to leave until the board becomes useless, unbearable, or both.

(19,288 posts)I'd be upset too, but don't let them win. I think some go in search of something to be mad about. It is like having Nelly Olsen, tattle to the teacher. I never hung out with the snootie girls, even though I'm female. I don't like it.
I recently read of a truce between the groups. The hosts worked stuff out. This seems like someone is playing unfair, games You guys be good, but we get to keep being offended and alerting your business.
Oh, well. It is a shitty deal.
Don't leave!!!

(2,500 posts)Sometimes it seems as if we have members who just lie in wait to assail anything possible. I thought the Jury system was all right for awhile, but I think there just might be people who enjoy sitting in the Judgment seat and handing out judgments without much deliberation or consideration.
When people respond as you all have, then I can't help but reciprocate in gratitude for support. I will stay, shake it off, and get back up to the plate again. Thanks.

(37,540 posts)That would tell you a lot about the alert motivation, IMHO. I can think of a few people on DU that would do such a frivolous alert. Adding a name might also cut back on a lot of bogus alerts that are designed to make this board suck.
Major Nikon
(36,900 posts)The feature I'd like to see is that if someone has a certain number of alerts over a certain period of time, the ratio of hides vs no-hides would show up on their transparency page.
For instance, let's say the trigger number was 30 alerts over 90 days. A person who had more than that would have their ratio displayed on their transparency page. When people start showing up with <25%, it won't be too hard to figure out who the disrupters are.
Old and In the Way
(37,540 posts)I think it is relevant info for the DU community to know each posters-
(1) total # OF Alerts (what does the total time cost DUers in "jury duty"?)
(2) Won/Loss record and ave jury decision.
Seems to me we could use this data to rid trolls/disrupters, completely and automatically.
Macoy51
(239 posts)I agree that leaving just lets them win. Stand and fight for what you believe in. I have only received one hide decision, but I just shrugged it off and continued to post the next day.
