I recently had an item finally arrive after a backup at the Suez Canal.

You'd never know it was a problem, checking this

Ronald Regan busted the unions so labor lost it's negotiating power & TPTB replaced living wages with easy credit. Now the middle class is maxed out. We're trinket rich & asset poor. I read that in an article about how middle class Americans have the latest in electronics, nice furniture, & nice cars but they have no equity.

We need a new economic system, one not based on consumption. Not just the US, but the entire world. I have no idea what that looks like & every time I mention it in a DU post, no one responds, so I guess I'm not the only one who can't quite visualize something different. ??? I think it must start with taking profit out of the equation, or at the very least, balancing it somehow.

My economics classes were long ago.

I don't know the answer, but it's backwards and destructive the way it is now. Relying on endless growth in any situation backfires.

I think we are on the verge of evolving out of capitalism. It was better than feudalism but it is not ecologically sustainable.

I think the new economic system will have some socialist features but it won't be the traditional socialism fully under the thumb of politicians.

I like Richard Wolff's idea about democracy in the workplace .

yes, Minnesota, the blue state that everybody seems to think is a blue paradise (except for the winters).

Our bus service got cut again. And what remains is getting more and more unreliable. Not having a car is becoming untenable for more and more people. That is evolution towards a more UNsustainable economy and environment.

Evolution had a lot of dead ends and I hope we don't have those dead ends.

There was a lot of suffering as feudalism fell apart. There were constant disruptions to supply chains and transportation. There was almost constant war, famine and disease. So yeah, not a pleasant shift from feudalism to capitalism. Let's hope it's not as bad this time.
