New York (CNN Business) Many top business leaders are seriously worried that artificial intelligence could pose an existential threat to humanity in the not-too-distant future.
Forty-two percent of CEOs surveyed at the Yale CEO Summit this week say AI has the potential to destroy humanity five to ten years from now, according to survey results shared exclusively with CNN.
Its pretty dark and alarming, Yale professor Jeffrey Sonnenfeld said in a phone interview, referring to the findings.

The human condition in a nutshell.
The only part part missing, was where some incestuous fast-talker co-opts said worship - taking over for himself.
It's all so hopeless.

(11,139 posts)I suppose AI could access the codes that are needed to detonate nuclear weapons, release toxic pollutants, render useless all computers that regulate power grids, etc. But then AI would be destroying the planet and "themselves". Perhaps five years is enough for AI to "learn" that.
Realistically, AI could replace CEOs more effectively and efficiently than replace those that actually do manual labor.

(3,527 posts)Exactly how, do they predict, will the destruction be effected? And will the AI bumble into it in the way of its creators or will it decide to develop some efficient pesticide?
If it agrees to spare the rest of creation, Im on board.

(46,997 posts)We have that already, we have it today for some, and for many at other times. Poor information is the result of advanced degrees for 2/3 of the bell-shaped curve. Job losses is for a lot of reasons.
AI is a tool, not a dictator. Those who learn to use it keep working. Those who coast are superfluous. Same as ever.
