There are second hand stores, auctions, flea markets and garage sales going on all the time. If you don't have time to attend, just make friends with someone who does. It will benefit both of you.

I don't make a lot of money. But I have nice things that I got at a fraction of the cost of buying new. I never worry that something will break down because if it does, I'll just get another one for a song. Most of my small household appliances are older than me and I'm 40! Unfortunately, many of these appliances will outlive me! errr fortunately? haha

I figured that most DUers knew all about this stuff but a thread in GD proved to me that most of my fellow DUers are buying Made In China crap. DON'T DO IT!!!!!

Plus, old stuff looks cool and everyone will know you are hip and into retro! It's a win, win win and a big LOSS for China.

1. I've been saying that for years now...

I've got an apartment full of vintage stuff.
Of course, every once in a while, I have to buy some cheap, Chinese made plastic crap.
It can be unavoidable, and that's OK.
But for the most part, I manage to avoid it.

2. I sell stuff I come across at auctions etc on ebay!

I hope that more DUers discover what we already know. Everybody (but China and the Reupbs) wins when we buy used stuff locally!

I have to admit that once in a great while I have to buy some cheap Chinese crap. It happens.

3. Probably my favorite stuff...

...is the Danish Copco pots and pans.
We've got a whole bunch of them, more than we "need."
On eBay, you can get them for like 30 or 40 bucks each.
They cost $200-300 each new.
Yes, they've been used and have some scratches, and nicks.
So what?
They'll last forever.

Most of Sweetie's fabulous wardrobe is vintage, and we have hundreds of musical instruments that we bought for pennies on the dollar. A couple of weeks ago, I needed to buy a flashlight. Yes, I bought a plastic Chinese made one at the hardware store. It's not something I will use very often, so hopefully it will last a couple of years...

4. It hurts a lot less to buy a new item here and there

when you get everything else so inexpensively.

I have made thousands of dollars off musical instruments- keep hold of those and you will have a very nice collection to sell someday should you ever need the money.

I bet your Sweetie looks better than all the other girls because her clothes have real style!

It's nice to have confidence in the stuff we use everyday. I get a great deal of satisfaction using quality items that were made to last but didn't cost me much.
