1. Other than NYC, it's the "Places I'll Never See" thread

Sigh.

Beautiful spaces. I can't imagine what it's like to travel through them.

2. I've been in two of those European stations,

the Gare du Nord in Paris, and Atocha in Madrid. The garden is really cool and obviously wasn't there the day that I was in the station.

I was there on 3-11-04.

3. And in Kyoto...

This station was built in 1997. Note the escalator.

I hadn't been to Kyoto since 1991, when the old, grubby station still existed. Coming back in 2000, I was astounded at the new station, which has a department store, a luxury hotel, and an underground shopping and restaurant arcade. This picture appears to have been taken from a mezzanine that has restaurants and snack bars.
