Archbishop of Canterbury no longer our leader after Synod vote, say GSFA PrimatesChurch Times
A GROUP of conservative Primates declared on Monday that they no longer recognised the current Archbishop of Canterbury as the de facto leader of the Anglican Communion.
A statement, issued on Monday morning on behalf of a dozen Primates connected to the Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches (GSFA), says that the Church of England has chosen to break communion with those provinces who remain faithful to the historic biblical faith by allowing blessings for same-sex couples (News, 9 February).
The statement follows a virtual meeting chaired by the Archbishop of South Sudan, the Most Revd Justin Badi, last week.
The statement identifies the decision to bless same-sex couples, approved in the Church of Englands General Synod earlier this month, as the cause of the rupture.
As the Church of England has departed from the historic faith passed down from the Apostles by this innovation in the liturgies of the Church and her pastoral practice . . . she has disqualified herself from leading the Communion as the historic Mother Church, the statement says.
The Primates write that being unable to be in communion with the Church of England breaks our hearts and we pray for the revisionist provinces to return to the faith once delivered (Jude 3) and to us.

Anyone could see this coming.

(2,925 posts)As soon as he can find me one place where Jesus said literally anything against homosexuality in the canon or apocrypha, it will be the first time it ever existed.
You have two commandments, love God and love your neighbors. You clearly hate your gay neighbor, so maybe you should give up your job since you are clearly unqualified.
I'll even turn to Micah 6:8 what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, let mercy be your first concern, and humbly obey your God.
Little lesson, here. Justice in the Bible means everyone gets what they deserve. Everyone deserves to be safe, have food, and love whomever they love. That's why there were jubilee years when debts were forgiven. Mercy, that means people get less bad than they deserve. So, even if you have taken mistranslation of Hebrew texts condemning the homosexual prostitutes of pagan gods as being against gays, you should turn to mercy first.not hatred. Finally, anyone who calls themselves the right reverend or most reverend missed the humble part s long, long time ago.

(404 posts)Full disclosure: I am not a Christian (any variety). In fact an atheist.
Historically Christianity has been against us.
Not an excuse for anything and kudos to those who want to change it.

(2,925 posts)We kept his anti woman stuff out of context and the same with the gay materials and did not canonize the things that took power away from the patriarchy.
They aren't supposed to be Paulians, they are supposed to follow Christ.

(404 posts)As if Paul didn't write most of the New Testament.
I'd rather be a gay as hell honest atheist than use intellectually dishonest arguments to glom on to the historical prestige of Christianity.

(2,925 posts)They take the original, be it political, philosophical, or religious, movement and remove it from it's historical context.
So, they ignore that Paul wrote different things to the Corinthians about women because only disreputable women spoke in public there than he did to Ephesus. Moreover, Jesus spoke in Aramaic to a Jewish audience. The people heard what he said from a Jewish context, that most Christian groups ignore.
Further, fundamentalists do not allow the movement to change over time. They ignore the fundamentals about live and justice and proof text selection to hate the people they want to hate.
People like Jimmy Carter lived real Christianity (I try to do the same).
People like the hateful reverend twist real faith just as badly as the jihadist pervert Islam. Hatred based on religion is a perversion of all the teachings of every major world religion with the possible exception of Shintoism which believes that non Japanese people are lesser.
