But there's a lot there it's hard to argue with if you've paid any attention at all to this world.

One thing it communicated I do not know if it was the author's intent to get across. The book is so thoroughly centered on womyn that by the end I got some sense of how a girl might feel getting through ostensibly 'neutral' works that were actually thoroughly centered on men, whether this was intended or not, merely by the conventions of language employed.

The effect referenced I expect is deeper and less resistible for the young, hence the one usage, and in context 'male' runs a bit flat, somehow....
