LOS ANGELES — Face it, men, your wife doesn’t really love NASCAR.
A study published recently on the sports-viewing habits of married women found that wives were more likely to watch televised sports as a means of maintaining their relationship with their husbands than for their own enjoyment.

Either I really don't understand my Wife and Sister or this is missing something. Maybe just the sample size was way too small.
But my wife rarely misses any of the top three tiers of Nascar races. (Can't say the same myself) And it was her idea originally to get tickets to see some races live. And then there are the UCONN Women's Basketball games. Don't get the TV coverage we would like but when they are on, you know where the TV/DVR is set.

My girlfriends loves sports, shes a Cubs fan like me and she is a die hard Bears fan. She never misses a Bears game and will stop what she is doing to to watch.

Being female myself, and hearing women and girls when their husbands and Bfs aren't around to listen in, I can safely say that this study has a very truthful ring to it.

Of course, there are exceptions. But being a wife, I agree with this study although I have learned to like soccer - but only during the World Championships. I don't follow any team or just the weekly competitions, and I'd choose a good romantic movie (paranormal, comedy, mature, teen, classic) over watching any sport any day.

I have actually been in situations where she 'showed me up' in front of male friends. That's OK with me though. I love music more than anything.

8. Not in my house. I'm at least as likely to initiate sports viewing on TV as my hubby...

and he's a very enthusiastic sports fan. I particularly love football, and will watch games in which I have no specific team interest just because I enjoy the sport. I've been known to do a three-game marathon on any given Sunday, with hubby at work and nowhere near a TV screen. I call him with play updates regularly. He says that he's the luckiest man on the planet, to share this interest with me! LOL Then again, we New Englanders, male or female, tend to be especially passionate about our sports.

but I know from My experience in earlier years I went along with the guys sports stuff just for a support thing, or something, not because I was really interested.

Now I don't pretend with that kind of stuff - I really dislike huge mega sports and scoff at it, and fortunately my mate thinks along the same lines. So much money going towards a few for stupid human tricks like chasing balls.

When there are women's or mixed teams that garner that sort of attention and popularity I may reconsider, but til then it's a guy thing, thoroughly marinated in guy think and I have no interest

It makes life so much easier. Best of luck to you women stuck with addicted men. Watching any sport religiously would make me seriously crazy.

I could give a shit for watching sports, my wife feels the same.

I had a brief period in the early 90s where I was hanging out in bars and watching the Chicago Bulls, but that was the real exception in my adult life.

Mostly I like the science channels, or AMC and HBO.

I used to watch basketball all on my own (got tired of it in the 90s when they all became thugs). While I admit that my husband did get me interested in soccer and golf, I do not watch it to maintain my relationship with him. There's lots of other sports that he watches that I just couldn't really get into.

That's just silly.
