Digital Thermometers

I work in a grocery emporium and I am certain that I have been exposed countless times to CV by customers.

So I monitor my temperature as this is one symptom of contracting the virus.

Damned thermometer is all over the place with temperature. (Yes, I don't take it for 15 minutes after eating or drinking anything.) Every 15 minutes. Anyway between 99.0 and 100.4.

OTH, I'm glad nothing over 100.4 (so far).

What's the deal with these instruments?

Do you mean if you take it repeatedly, one time after another you get that much variation? hlthe2b Apr 2020 #3

Try to take it at the same time every day. Like AM and PM. mitch96 Apr 2020 #5

Your body temperature naturally fluctuates about two degrees up or down over the course of the day.

Or do you mean it varies throughout the day (as it does for everyone).

As an example, I've checked mine at 2:30 AM (96.7) and 3:45 AM (97.2) over two mornings... THis is normal as everyone's body temperature drops overnight. Early afternoon it typically runs about 97.7 (normal for me and for many Americans is lower than 98.6 as the average temp has been dropping slightly for several decades.

If you are not taking it orally (or rectally) but using ears or armpit, THAT is your problem. Those thermometers and that area of measurement are notoriously unreliable.

and you might be having early symptoms. The digital thermometers are accurate, the chemical ones not so much. If you live in a very humid area, your temperature might also reflect increased activity, you clothing interfering with the body's ability to sweat and cool down the core temperature. Check your resting temperature tonight when you get home and see what it is. If it's still up there, you might be coming down with something, even the garden variety flu.

Nobody's going to test you with just a low grade fever to show them, which is silly because that's how this disease is spreading, people who only feel a little "off" shedding virus like crazy. You'll need a nasty cough for that.

I was always sick when I worked retail. Everybody who's selling groceries these days is a hero(ine).

Also if you can try another thermometer, the one you have might be fluky... a thought....
