Related: About this forumAnyone taking Zetia? My doctor prescribed at my last visit and I have been
taking it for about 4 weeks. I had bad side effects from the 2 previous statin drugs she prescribed, so this is a non-statin alternative. After I had been on Zetia for a couple weeks, I noticed muscle weakness in my left hand. Couldn't open ziplock bags, button up my shirts, zippers weren't cooperating. My right hand is dominant, but I've always been able to do things fairly well with my left hand, but now I can't. Has anyone else had a side-effect like this. I've read that muscle weakness is one side effect of using Zetia.

(7,080 posts)and it worked great. Then I got older and started having hair falling out. I quit the statin. Then new doc said try this and that and I discovered that no statin agreed with me anymore. I finally just called it quits. Newest doc had me try generic Crestor and it made my stomach hurt and upset. I will see him in Feb but I am done w/statins. My body just says NO. Gotta die from something.

(21,949 posts)I have not experienced the side effects you describe.
Ive been on Zetia for two years with no side-effects, but my doc said that my LDL was still too high, so he added fluvastatin to the Zetia and no side-effects from either drug.

(10,897 posts)from Zetia too - not muscle weakness (got that from atorvastatin, which just about crippled my left foot), but soreness in my arms and shoulders. My doctor (family practitioner) didn't think Zetia caused issues like that but I started going to a cardiologist who said Zetia could cause problems similar to statins.
