Signed up to Roku briefly to watch a movie.
The advertising was intolerable.
Deleted their app and won't do that again.

(8,644 posts)They are rock solid and polished and have great remotes. I have an account, but don't stream any content from them directly. I use their device for Netflix/Amazon Video/YouTube.
I also use the Samsung platform (Tizen I believe) on a different TV. It is usable but clunky by comparison. The remote is a hot mess.

(38,933 posts)I can do that with other streaming services. Couldn't find a way to do that with Roku.
I'm too old to join the Marines, I'm not looking to borrow money or get a credit card, and I don't use Tide detergent.

(5,170 posts)Solely at the time because our main platform was Hulu and Roku Hulu at the time was absolute garbage. My son has a Roku TV, and I do like it. I'm too deep into the Fire world to make the change right now.

(71,023 posts)To each their own...I didn't know you signed up for Roku. We have Roku TV's and one of their Roku boxes...we never had to sign up for anything.

(29,999 posts)Loud ads bother me to the point, that I can't watch a station. Tubi also isn't overwhelming with the amount of ads either. I don't like the Roku Channel or Pluto because of their ads, but Tubi has lots of stuff and tolerable ads. I even watch Tubi while I'm at the gym. (On my phone) When I'm at the gym, I can't leave the room during a commercial and I have to put up with ads. I watched Machete the other day (I know..LOL ) while I was on the treadmill, barely noticed the ads. I also watched Goodfellows in July while I was at the gym.

(71,023 posts)there are others I watch too. If you want a great deal for the money...I suggest Sling and/or Philo.

(37,883 posts)and never even noticed the ads. That is because I have trained myself to mute them and then I do different things on commercial breaks, like unload the dishwasher.
I don't watch much "fiction" TV, though. Sometimes I even wonder why I subscribe to all these services.
The political shows from MSNBC are almost always on, whether I'm actually watching them or not. I'll tell you one ad that is really getting on nerves is that Jardience woman dancing around. Even though it's muted, it seems like she is on there all the time.

(4,050 posts)The Roku device is the BEST streaming device out there. Its completely agnostic of other streaming services and has the simplest most intuitive interface possible. If youre looking to test streaming, dont confuse the crappy channel with the device. Try Netflix on a Roku for example.
