I gather the rinses aren't helping any. Have you tried a milkshake? Something cool might help ease the pain.
Do you have anesthetic lozenges or sprays? Those help to numb the throat.
I'm so sorry!

(60,135 posts)Btw how wide will the red skin spread from the radiation? I noticed a mild rash on my body. It could be from the Cisplatin, the radiation, or from the heated easy chair.
sinkingfeeling
(52,993 posts)the radiation hits or goes through. Some people actually get blisters on their upper back as the rays pass through the neck. Aquaphor is good for the skin, but my radiologist gave me Fougera Bacitracin Zinc Ointment cream for burns.

(19,023 posts)My husband has esophageal cancer, diagnosed in March 2016. He has a feeding tube. He has had mouth sores for over a month. He has the miracle mud, which eases the pain, but isn't really healing. He got a chemo break a month ago, which really helped. He is on another break until Wed. but so far his side effects haven't slowed down. I have found a recipe for another mouth rinse to ease the pain:
1/2 tsp of Maalox or Milk of Magnesia (I'm using Maalox)
1/2 tsp children's cherry flavored Benedryl
1/2 tsp Chloraseptic cherry flavored sore throat spray
Mix them together and rinse and spit out. Try to keep it in your mouth for at lest 15 seconds. This makes enough for one rinse.
I made it last night and today and my husband is using it between the doses of miracle mud. I also made him a healing soothing rinse of manuka honey and freshly brewed green tea, or just manuka honey and filtered water. Or honey, L glutamine and water. L glutamine is supposed to help the cells heal. Also use baking soda rinses. The only one he swallows is the miracle mud. He still has mouth sores, but I'm hoping the rinses give him a few minutes of comfort. Our daughters told us about the honey, or I wouldn't have known.
I really hope by now that your throat is better

(60,135 posts)I also use the miracle mouthwash.
I can't take any pain killers because they have me on Prednisone.
How much longer will your husband be in therapy?
I've been out of Chemo and Radiation for 10 weeks. It gets better.
Marthe48
(19,023 posts)He has chemo until Oct.gets a couple weeks off and then probably radiation. My vet calls prednisone his 'bring em back from the dead' shot. He's sure pulled many of my pets back from the brink
Hope you are getting better and better every day Have a good sleep and a better day!

(60,135 posts)My wife pushed me in a wheelchair between them. I could walk, but very slowly and somewhat shaky.
Marthe48
(19,023 posts)I tell my husband that his big job is taking it easy so he gets better. He hasn't needed a wheelchair so far. I would have found one for him last week, but our daughter met us at the door and she gave him an arm while I parked. I would only walk until some part of my body said 'enough!' and then do something else. But I've never been into moving, haha
I found a site called inspire.com It has different support groups for really specific health problems. I was on there today to learn more about jpeg tubes. Lots of posts from people who are living through the illnesses and the treaments. You sign up for free and then you join the groups/communities you are interested in.

(60,135 posts)After the second week of radiation, the bottom falls out. He will be tired, weak, and unsteady.
I've been out 10 weeks, and my energy is returning. I'm starting to experiment with food. I waste a lot, but it is for a good cause.
BTW Stash Lemon Ginger tea tasted fine. Or is it Ginger Lemon, I can't remember. I have a feeling that I will probably be a vegetarian after this. I will wait and see what I can eat.
Remind him to gauge improvement by week, not by the day.
Stay strong
Marthe48
(19,023 posts)but he finds reserves and keeps fighting. Nothing tastes good to him. He gets 99.5% of his calories from the feeding tube. I'll pass that along to him, but this week, it is hour to hour, not even day to day. We are going outside to get some fresh air and watch the birds and squirrels. Always refreshing You have a wonderful day. Thanks for staying in touch. Never feel you have to reply. I know that between time and energy, posting should be lower on the priority list!
