Cancer Support
Related: About this forumI was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma yesterday.
Never had cancer of any kind. The skin tag was removed. About the size of a nickel. But protruded about 1/4 of an inch. It was painful to touch and I kept hitting it on furniture and bed posts. I was so glad the dermatologist removed it. I will probably have to have more cut away after testing confirms. Needless to say I was frightened and still nervous about it.
But I did laugh on my way to town today. As soon as I turned on the car radio to listen to some relaxing classical music, Chopin's Funeral March started playing. I do have a dark sense of humor and in some way I think maybe it was the gods playing a joke on me. But it did make me laugh and hum to the main theme. Da da da dum da da da
da dum da dee.

(9,923 posts)A good sense of humor, however dark, is as effective as medicine in these cases. All the best, and I'm sure you will triumph over the carcinoma...such a pretty word for such an ugly affliction.

(136,071 posts)I have follow-up appointment with dermatologist Tuesday. He looks out for me pretty well. Had a similar thing removed last year, and all's well.
THIS on 'MY' radio station now:

I found that helped when I had cancer.
But if you listen to Chopin, maybe listen to this instead. I think Rubenstein is a little better at it.
It is from th Bb minor Sonata... actually..

(28,475 posts)I believe she has had 3 separate bouts with it, each one several years apart and with spots that sound similar to yours. Her last go round was about a year and a half ago when she was 94. She's doing fine and it seems to be gone and she's still making jokes about her "delicate Irish skin". (And skin cancer is something that is not uncommon in the family, though it's usually basal (sp) cells).
While not to be ignored, this cancer can be dealt with and I do hope all goes as well for you as it has for my aunt.

(2,284 posts)I had cervical cancer in 1977 and breast cancer in 2011. Both were treated with radiation only, no chemo. Refused the 5 year course of Tamoxifan. I take Vitamin D3 daily. Just had my Mammo and there was no sign of cancer.
VitD3 is a cancer preventer, it's the only vitamin my doctor has advised me to take.
Hang in there, Lint Head.

(60,135 posts)Will you have to have any scans?
My SCC was stage 3 on the verge of going stage 4. I survived all the scans and probes, and you will too.
The best weapon against cancer is a sense of humor. I see you came into the fight well armed.

(14,255 posts)Surgeon was amazing! Mine was about the size of a dime. Once they got it all I did not need any more treatment. When I asked how to prevent in the future, their answer was (paraphrasing) "Most exposure that causes this type happened when you were a kid."
I wish you a good recovery and hope no more surfaces.
