I have lost 50 pounds, and kept it off for more than 35 years.
How? .... I stop eating before I am feeling full.
The full feeling comes later, if I have a full glass of water at the end of the meal.
Why? I had heart surgery and, after that, I lost weight, and know that losing that weight saved my life.
Yes, I recovered from the heart surgery. I am in my late 70s.
I try to walk up and down my stairs many times a day. (I got 14 stairs from first floor to 2nd floor)
I clean my apartment myself.
Before surgery, I had a house cleaner.
.............I didn't want to do it, & I can afford a "house cleaner"
............NOW, I CLEAN ALL THE ROOMS MYSELF....(if I am correct, cleaning the house is exercise)..
............Now, I bend and clean the floor, and even the basement. (the basement really doesn't need cleaning, but that
is exercise.
Now, I stand at the kitchen sink and wash my dishes, and then dry them with paper towels.
.......................AND YES, I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC DISH WASHER, THAT I NEVER USE.....
.............Why?........Because standing at the kitchen sink is exercise....Putting the dishes away is exercise.....

ONE THT I READ 40 YEARS AGO, TALKED ABOUT BUS DRIVERS AND TICKET TAKERS IN LONDON IN THE 50S..
THE .......TICKET TAKERS WALKED UP AND DOWN THE STAIRS IN THE LONDON BUSES IN THE 50s ..............
................and ...TICKET TAKERS LIVED A LOT LONGER THAN THE BUS DRIVERS, BECAUSE THE BUS DRIVERS
...........................SAT ON THEIR ASSES ALL DAY DRIVING THE BUSES. THE TICKET TAKERS TOOK TICKETS AND
WALKED AROUND TAKING TICKETS........................(that is exercise) that one is a very famous study and
...........you will find it at google search. ..So, I walk up and down the stairs a lot, and stand at the sink and wash the dishes.
................EVERY LITTLE BIT OF EXERCISE WORKS...... (also, I try to get out and take a 20 minute walk every day.)

However, at the end, this quote is helpful.
There doesnt seem to be diminishing benefits on low impact low intensity cardio. For example: brisk walking, casual cycling, stairs, treadmill, hiking, rucking etc. You can do this as much as possible, and it is effective for both heart health and fat loss. The snazzy term for this nowadays is Zone 2 cardio but, whatever

P.S. I live on a ridge, and going from top to bottom and back is like 10 flights of stairs, but more interesting. My neighbor walks his dog, but that's cheating, since the dog is eager to get back home and pulls him up the hill. (it's a big dog!) 🦮

(18,602 posts)I like walking for an hour in the neighborhood. Its great physical exercise and gives me a mental boost as well.

(12,205 posts)than 30 min so I set my tracker to go off if I do. So throughout the day my wrist will buzz and I immediately stand up and walk around even if working at computer watching a movie or just relaxing.
I have a golden retriever and we walk him miles every day with some "up" and in good weather twice a day.
I do yoga, tai chi, qigong for strength and to calm my body.
Just started weights at home light ones and resistance straps. And taking a free senior balance class, sounds easy until you see what they have us do!
