Your thoughts on a record I found on rootsireland, curious...

I found a record for my 1/2 2nd great uncle's baptism in Ireland. These records are transcribed, not originals.

There is a space on the bottom of the transcription that says:

Notes:
Married to: and gives his wife's full birth name, date and location of the marriage (which was in the US).

I am happy about getting this info but it seems weird to me that his marriage info is transcribed on his baptism record. The only thing I can think of is that the person who transcribed this actually knew him and his wife (or the family) and decided to throw in some extra info.

Any other reasons that you can think of why this information is together?

Years 1858 and 1864.

I guess if you wanted to really start over here you had to become a Methodist, eh?

when a person applies to the priest to be married in the Catholic church, you must supply your baptism certificate. The priest will then contact the church where the person was baptized to check for a record of a previous marriage...guess it's a way of guarding against bigamy.
