During this time of uncertainty, I want what is best for you.

But I am sad.

Our year has been ripped away from us. The unknown of when we will return to the classroom, or if we will finish the year through remote learning is the reality we are facing.

And I am sad because I didn’t get to say a proper goodbye.

We didn’t know with the last hug and high five that it would be for more than just the weekend.
We didn’t know our classroom—usually full of life and organized chaos—would soon sit empty and silent. . .

My 2 grandsons, both in kindergarten, may experience this loss; they're both at home now. Fortunately my daughters are good teachers, and mothers. Think of how many more there are, in this situation.

1. Some kids get very attached to their teachers

and their friends. This will be hard on a lot of them, especially at first.

On the other hand, kids adapt a lot faster than adults give them credit for. I learned this during my almost 20 years in K-6th.

4. Yep. Some will be fine. Some will struggle. A few would be better off not at home. I miss

miss my kiddos and am worried about them.

I might ask the classroom teacher if she would forward a note from me to them

2. I'm a university prof now forced online and received a sweet

Message from an international student yesterday saying he was sorry we would not see each other again before graduation (or ever). I got a little wistful. Even the 22 year olds can be like our own children too.

6. Very sweet! Another former grad assistant now working in China

Wrote me to say she had heard we were short of face masks, which were more effective than the US government was saying. She had a supply of 120 and wanted to send them to me.

5. To me, the sadest thing, high school seniors.

Graduation was to be the last time they would be together as a class. Ceremonies will not take place. Yearbooks not signed. Spring sports not played.
