Pets
Related: About this forumWell, this isn't exactly a pet, but we've seen skunks in our back yard
We're not in the woods, but in the suburbs. And it seems skunks are prevalent in this area. (I encountered one on a walk at dusk a while back.) But it is weird to see them. (It has shown up on our security camera.)

(8,380 posts)We were out in the garden one day and saw a movement out of the corner of our eye. It was a momma skunk and 6 little babies, one was solid white, they were adorable. We live in the country and skunks get in our compost pile but seldom bother us - our dogs have been sprayed a couple of times but I think they learned to stay away because it hasn't happened in a long time.

(23,354 posts)And when I was out of town I got an alert of something in my yard. When I looked at the video it was a family of skunks traveling though to the next yard. This was in SF!

(11,917 posts)digging for bugs and rodents, at first I though I had moles. Then one night I was taking the dog out the back for a pee and one was on my door step and sprayed me, the dog, my car, and into my house. It was a real experience and took at least 3 weeks for the smell to go away, even after scrubbing everything.

(18,731 posts)I know they're around, because it's not uncommon during the warmer months to smell the "evidence" that one has sprayed. But we never see them, the way we see the rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, and opossums.
I'd be thrilled to see a skunk family (the babies are SOO cute!), but it just hasn't happened so far.
