On this day, October 15, 2008, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 733 points.

The entry at Wikipedia, which I cannot edit, says this was the second worst drop in terms of percentage. That was not true, even at the time. See:

List of largest daily changes in the Dow Jones Industrial Average

The chart there shows larger percentage losses on October 19, 1987; October 28, 1929; October 29, 1929; November 6, 1929; December 18, 1899; August 12, 1932; March 14, 1907; and October 26, 1987. Even at the time, the October 15, 2008, drop was only the ninth worst in terms of percentage. Throw in the losses on March 16, 2020, and March 12, 2020, and the October 15, 2008, loss drops to the eleventh worst position. The winner and still champeen is the drop of October 19, 1987.
